A record number of neighbors turned out for the LEHHNA block party on Saturday, Nov. 17. Well over 100 people and numerous dogs enjoyed perfect fall weather, delicious Wildside barbecue and good company on Cathcart, next to the Handy Pantry. Sidewalk chalk art, a pet costume and dessert-baking contests satisfied our competitive instincts. We all enjoyed the children's games and the display of adult hoola-hooping. Two musical neighbors, Ed White and Paul Roberts, played and sang, notably some personalized and often hilarious created-on-the-spot talking block party blues. Arlo Guthrie, move over. Police and firefighters, complete with fire engine, also joined the festivities. Altogether, we enjoyed the chance to get to know each other better.
